Funday Challenge – Game On – You Name It!

A Guy Called Bloke is at it again – and this time he nominated me directly – Whoohoo!!  His post is called Friday Funday – but because I know this won’t get posted by me until at least Saturday I’m dropping the Friday.  (And as you can see it took me all weekend and pretty much all of Monday to get this pulled together!).  Plus, he is across the pond (I think) and even if I post it Friday night, it is Saturday to him!  So I’m being considerate by not confusing others – or myself for that matter.

This challenge is 20 Questions with a Musical Chairs twist in which the chairs are the questions – kind of!  It has a touch of the telephone game to it too in my mind because as it moves from blogger to blogger the list of questions will totally change.

Basically, I’ve been given 19 questions to answer, of which I get to eliminate and replace 3.  Question 20 is required to remain intact and is the nomination of 3 other bloggers.

So here are the “official” rules as per the original post, just in case my description is a bit foggy:

1] Thank the nominator

2] Answer Q1 – Q19  Questions

3] Nominate three bloggers of your choice and notify them.

4] Each selected blogger MUST answer 16 of the asked 19 questions, but also insert 3 new questions to make up the 19 compliment. Every time a new blogger is selected they MUST only answer 16 of the asked 19 questions as well as answer their own 3, and choose 3 new bloggers. Each time a new blogger sees the questionnaire it will be completely different to the next blogger along.

[Hint: delete three of the questions of you don’t like or have no answer for and insert your own in its place]

5] Q20 Must always remain intact.

So let’s get started!  First – A Big THANK YOU to a Guy Called Bloke. Check out his blog.  It is definitely worth keeping an eye on.

Here are the 20 Questions I must answer – with three of the originals replaced by me with something I would rather answer or actually have something to say about!

1] What crazy (unusual) sport(s) have you always wanted to try?

I’ve always said I wanted to be in a Demolition Derby – even at my age now I would do it if I was given the chance.  I think it would be tons of fun.  I would be very sore for quite some time at my age now, but it would TOTALLY be worth it.  My car will be camo with pink accents – just in case you were wondering.

And I want to play Donkey Basketball some day.  My dad had told me about it, but I know it is not done much anymore as schools are worried about their gym floors.  But I think it would be a blast!  And I think I could be a Donkey Whisperer and do well.  It is probably the only time I could ever be a star basketball player.

2] What are your goals to be achieved in the month of July 2018?

Today is probably a bad day to ask that question.  Right now, my goal is to survive the month.  I thought after June my crazy crazy life would get back to just crazy – but looks like that won’t happen.  Oh well, keeps me on my toes.  I just want to get through the month and hit the majority of my work goals, not miss any appointments or events on my calendar and to get a little “me” time in somewhere.  And I would like to continue some on the improvements and purging I’ve started in my house.  For others my progress is probably baby steps on these, but for me it is HUGE!  AND I want to stay on my eating plan.  I had done really well last year and then I went off plan for awhile.  It is time to get back on and lose that last 1/3 of the weight that I had not quite gotten rid of yet.

3] What is your earliest memory?

My dad telling me to always eat the stuff on my  plate I don’t like first and to save the best things for last.  I still do this 40 some years later.

4] What movie did you watch as a kid that totally scarred you?

For me it was Stephen King’s Firestarter.  I remember begging my parents to let me watch that movie.  They finally caved and I think I only got a few minutes into the movie before I bailed.  I just remember something about the little girl catching some jerk guy’s boots on fire.

I read Stephen King and watch many of his movies but I’ve never been able to bring myself to watch that movie or even read that story.

5] Where would you like to be in 7 years time?

Wow!  In 7 years all of my kids will have graduated from high school and will be out of the house (I hope!).  My baby (The Instigator) will be 19 and the Girl will be 24!  I would love to have done something with my writing to where I could have a job that is not quite so stressful as I have now.  I know my hubby and I would like to move out of CA  – possibly to Idaho.  Honestly I have not thought too much about that until this question was asked because right now with 3 kids and work I don’t think that long term usually.  That is probably not good.

6] What are the colour of your eyes?

Hazel, although someone once told me they looked yellow.  But they are a light brown that sometimes looks a bit on the gold side and sometimes a tad bit green.

7] When was the last time you screamed at the top of your lungs?

Probably less than a year ago.  I’ve been known to get so frustrated at home that I go in the laundry room, turn on the dryer, washer and the fan and just scream as loud as I can.  Then I turn everything off, straighten my hair and clothes (because apparently they get all messed up when you scream like that) and calmly walk out to face the world (aka my family).

8] What are your favourite comfort foods?

Baked potato drenched in butter, bacon and green onions.  Tiramisu. Pretty much anything drenched in caramel – basically just give me some caramel with a little something in it – or just caramel.

9] What animal would you like to have as a pet? [Provide an image]

Real or imaginary animal?  A Baby Panda for a real one except that they don’t stay babies.  So maybe a Tiger instead.  That would be cool.  Imaginary would be a unicorn of course!!!  Or better yet – this tiger/unicorn I found online as a blanket!!

Does that count as providing an image?  You can see it if you click on it.  I don’t want to get in trouble for copyright stuff (there are other pictures of Tiger Unicorns that are super cool!!  Google it!) and I can draw decently but I could not do this one justice!

10] Classical music or not?

I’m more of a country music girl or some of what I call country rock – check out the Lacs – I like them.  But in high school I wanted to be different so rather than take Spanish, I chose to take 2 years of Russian taught by satellite class. I fell in love with Tchaikovsky – especially 1812 Overture.  What’s not to love about classical music that includes cannons!!!

11] 5 things about society that annoy you?

People!

Really?  You want something more specific – Stupid People.

My husband and the Girl say they hate people because they are stupid.  I don’t really agree with them, but I have started to lean a bit to their thinking at times.  But then I start to feel bad and lean back the other way.  Really there are a lot of things that annoy me and I try not to dwell on it – but one thing I can’t stand is how many people can’t seem to get the concept of merging while driving!  Really?!  It is not that hard!  It is like a damn zipper!  One side then the other!

12] How important is creativity to people?

Creativity is HUGE!!  I would not be blogging without creativity.  It is what makes us special and unique.

13] Do you have any siblings?

I have one brother who is 18 months younger than me.  However, it seems like he has always been bigger than me.  We grew up fighting something awful, but we always had each other’s back when it was needed.  And now we get along great.  I just wish he lived closer.  I am a very proud Big Sister – he grew up to be an amazing man!

14] Which 3 questions will you be deleting to add your own in?

I’ve added in questions 1, 4 and 7.  If you want to know what the original questions are that I skipped – you have to go visit the original post here.  Say Hello to the Guy Called Bloke while you’re at it.  You are reading this right now because of him.

15] Your favourite childhood movie?

The Last Unicorn and the Never Ending Story.  Although the first one is not as good as I remember it being now that I’ve seen it as an adult.  Maybe it needs to be redone.

16] What traits do you display when nervous?

Hmm…I’m not sure.  I used to bite my nails but I’ve kind of broken that habit.  I do get very quiet when I’m in a group and I don’t know people.  So maybe that is one trait.  But if you get me talking I may ramble when nervous.  And then my internal voice beats the crap out of me.

17] Are you healthy eater?

Not really – but I’m back on plan and trying to be one now.  My biggest issue is I really don’t like very many veggies.  Although I will eat baby spinach raw all by itself.  I put some in a ziploc bag and will just pull it out and start eating it like candy.

18] Bullet point your day so far.

  • Woke up later than I should have but too early in my mind.  Mondays kind of suck.  And it does not help that I have an 8am meeting that I have to lead each week on Mondays.
  • Made myself some coffee, rubbed the sleep from my eyes and signed into work.
  • Led an 8am meeting in my PJs.  Considering I was still kind of out of it I only stumbled over my words and had to apologize for making no sense once!
  • Summarized notes from meeting and completed some follow up items:  Logging a bug, logging an activity, updating project plan, etc
  • Did some testing on recent items implemented and logged some more bugs
  • Vented to a favorite co-worker about work and life in general.  Did not dwell too long though.  There is a fine line between healthy venting and just wallowing.
  • Took a shower around lunch time finally.
  • Got back to work and recruited one of my team members to help with some testing.
  • Found out that my portion of the testing is where the bugs were – logged more bugs
  • Documented some system requirements and updated the project database some more.
  • Realized I was hungry and had waited too long between my plan meals.  Drank a LaCroix (coconut – my fave!) with my meal in order to fill me up a bit more.  The carbonation works well.  (Yes, I did eat at other times – every 2 – 3 hours, but they were not worthy of a bullet)
  • Was getting ready to finish working and got an email for an urgent need.  But it involves working on powerpoint – so not so bad
  • Took a break from work for a couple hours to watch America’s Got Talent with my family.
  • Wrote a bit more on this blog post that I’ve been working on for 3 days!
  • And here we are – probably going to finish out the day doing some reading and then working a bit more before I crash for the night.  Need to get up early tomorrow to power through work before we head out to see Princess Bride at the local golf course – Food Truck Cinema on a Golf Course in the summer is awesome!

19] What are your 5 most favourite scents/smells?

  1. Fresh brewed coffee
  2. Fresh cut grass
  3. Fresh cut wood
  4. Jasmine
  5. My hubby and my kids (as babies – as teens they kind of stink!)

20] The three bloggers you are nominating are?

I’m not totally sure two of these three will participate but I want to broaden my nominations a bit.  If you are listed below and you don’t want to do this – no worries.  I gave it a whirl broadening my nominations!  However, one of you (you know who you are!) does not get a FREE pass.  This is your reward for checking up on me and nominating me for another post that I’ll be working on in the next couple days!

  1. Well done Ang4him,

Superb answers, and a really big thank you for taking part,

3] What is your earliest memory?

It’s strange my mum when l was young was always very adventurous, we lived in many places as kids, but one of the first things she taught me was to do exactly as your dad told you and now 50 odd years on, like you l still do exactly the same thing. However the positive thing is that it also allowed me to trial and sample many different cultural dishes in the same way until the day l found myself at a very strange invite where upon l was faced with all sorts of odd dishes indeed, and l remember thinking ‘Ok what now do l do? The eyeball or the penis?’

My hubby and my kids (as babies – as teens they kind of stink!) That made me laugh a lot!

    Truly excellent!

I recently nominated Stubby for 321, so be also interesting to see if he responds to this 🙂

    1. “The eyeball or penis?” Haha, that made me laugh. Can’t say I’ve had to ask that question before.

Stubby as you call him (I love that btw) nominated me on the 3-2-1 challenge so I was just getting him back. 😜

      1. Ah right ok, got you lol! Now the pieces fall together 🙂

Yeah, l must write about the eyeball and the penis party at some point. I was invited to be a guest at a friends banquet many years ago and it was filled with specialities and l was faced with many things. I opted for safe first and things l hoped l had identified correctly, but then l was left with a selection of serious oddities and l recognised the eyeball, and saw this other ‘thing’ and when l enquired, they said it is ‘penis of an animal’, When l enquired further, all they said was, ‘eat, eat penis’ lmao!

Excuse the pun here but it was a real ‘toss’ what to choose/chews first 🙂

  2. Great answers. Reading them I can see you many parallels with my, there are quite a few differences too, but a lot of sames.

I did Russian for a year at school.and I always rant about people not being able to merge. We get huge tail backs because people won’t give way! Oh and not using their indicators (turn signals) that drives me MAD.

And despite being a very talkative person, I clam up in groups of more that 3 or 4. So many people think I am very quiet because they have only seen me at parties. 🙂
